Eleven newborns die in Senegal Hospital fire

Eleven newborn babies have died in a fire at the maternity unit of a hospital in the western city of Tivaouane in Senegal. The fire was caused by a short circuit, said the city’s mayor.
The horrific incident took place in the Tivaouane city of Senegal, locals were outraged by the tragedy and called for action against those responsible.
Senegalese Health Minister Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr told local media about the results of the preliminary investigation, saying the hospital caught fire as a result of a short circuit.
He added that the situation was “extremely traumatic” and that an investigation into the incident was under way, while he was returning to Senegal immediately from Geneva, leaving the World Health Organization conference unfinished.
Diagne Sy Mbengue said three children were rescued after the blaze, but did not give further details. The hospital was inaugurated recently
