KARACHI: The federal government has increased the electricity price for Karachi to Rs2.89 per unit.
A notification regarding increase in price of electricity from Rs1.09 a unit to Rs2.89 a unit has been issued by the Power Division, Ministry of Energy.
The new rate will be applicable from Sept 1, 2020. The rates have been imposed on recommendation of the National Electricity and Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet had decided to approve an increase in K-Electric’s tariff up to Rs2.89 per unit from September 1, 2020, and a subsidy of Rs 4.7 billion was also provided to the KE on account of tariff differential.
With this increase, the power company’s tariff would be on par with other power distribution companies.
