Election Commission directs to complete electoral lists for local bodies polls

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday directed the provincial election commissioners to complete the electoral lists at the earliest in view of the local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh.

According to the ECP, the revised electoral lists will preliminary be published in the month of November this year. For the convenience of the public, display centers and inspection centers will be established in every district. This will enable the individuals to check their names and details in the electoral lists.

The election commission will also launch voters’ awareness campaign next month.

Earlier today, the Election Tribunal of Quetta had disqualified Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Suri as member of National Assembly, as election in his constituency NA-265 (Quetta-II) had been declared null and void.

The Election Tribunal, headed by Abdullah Baloch, issued the verdict on a writ petition filed by Qasim Suri’s rival candidate from Balochistan National Party ( Mengal ) accusing him of rigging.

In his verdict, the Judge also ordered holding by-election on the aforementioned seat.
