Eight Pakistani Nurses and midwives have received the privilege of being mentioned in the list of 100 outstanding women nurses and midwives.
The World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Nursing Now, International Council of Nurses (ICN), International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), and Women in Global Health (WGH), released the list of the health workers for their contributions as nurses and midwives from 43 countries and six global regions, to praise these women.
Moreover, all eight nurses and midwives belong to faculty or alumni of the Aga Khan University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM).
Dr Rozina Karmaliani was honoured under the category ‘board and management’. Yasmin Parpio and Samina Vertejee, were mentioned under the category ‘Community Hero’.
Furthermore, Saima Sachwani (development of nursing curriculum), Marina Baig (leveraging mobile health technology to improve maternal health), Dr Shela Hirani (promoting breastfeeding during the Covid-19 pandemic), Neelam Punjani (improving access to sexual and reproductive health rights) and Sadaf Saleem (geriatric nursing) ,were similarly mentioned in the list.
