Eid-ul-Adha being celebrated with religious fervor

ISLAMABAD: Eid-ul-Adha is being celebrated with religious fervor and zeal across the country on Monday to remember the supreme sacrifice of Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).

The day started with Eid prayers in the mosques and supplication for peace, progress and prosperity of the Muslim Ummah and Pakistan. Ulema in their Eid sermons highlighted the spirit and value of sacrifice and urged people to help poor generously apart from sacrificing animals.

Special security arrangements were made for public gatherings at Eidgahs.

After Eid prayers, those who could afford will perform ritual of slaughtering animals in commemoration of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS)’s willingness to sacrifice his only son Hazrat Ismail (AS) for the sake of Allah (SWT). People spend their time feasting and distributing meat among their family members, neighbours, friends and poor.

It is tradition for those who can afford it to sacrifice domestic animals as a symbol of Hazrat Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to sacrifice his only son. In Pakistan, more than 11.5 million animals are slaughtered during Eid-ul-Adha, which marks the end of Hajj.

Special television and radio programmes regarding the mega event would be aired.

Many people throw BBQ parties to friends and families during this Eid.
