‘Educational institutes to remain closed till Apr 11 in COVID-19 hotspot areas’
ISLAMABAD: Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday announced that educational institutes will remain closed till Apr 11 in the areas badly affected with coronavirus.
Shafqat Mahmood said the educational institutes will remain shut down till Apr 11 in Islamabad and nine other districts of Punjab including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Multan, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Sheikhupura.
“While the educational activities will continue as usual in other districts of Punjab. On the other hand, the NCOC meeting will once again review the coronavirus situation on April 7,” he said.
He said the schools who committed, violation of the order, will be sealed. He said COVID situation in some of the districts in Punjab including Lahore was alarming.
Talking about other provinces, he said that the provinces could independently take a decision regarding their institutes.
The federal education minister said exams from grade 9th to 12th will be held as per the schedule, in the end of May. While, fate of the Cambridge system exams will be decided after meeting with their officials, he added.
The minister apprised that the NCOC had decided to shut down schools, colleges, universities, academies and madrassahs in selected areas from Mar 15 to 28. He said all the educational institutes in those areas will remain closed till Apr 11.
