ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended memberships of 154 legislators including members of Senate, National Assembly and provincial assemblies over non- submission of asset details.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Fehmida Mirza, Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Special Assistant to PM on CDA Affairs Ali Nawaz Awan are among those whose memberships have been suspended.
The ECP has sent the lists of the relative legislators to the speakers of National Assembly, Senate and all the four provincial assemblies, over their failure to submit details of their assets after passing of the deadline on Jan 18.
According to the lists, 52 members of the Punjab Assembly, 19 of the Sindh Assembly, 26 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and six members of the Balochistan Assembly have been suspended. So, three Senators have been suspended.
Those suspended from NA include Ali Nawaz, Fawad Chaudhry, Abdul Rehman Kanjo, Fehmida Mirza, Attaullah, Israr Parveen, Maiza Hameed, Sheikh Raheel Asghar and others.
1,031 out of the 1,195 lawmakers submitted details of their assets and liabilities and 154 did not submit the details and their membership would remain suspended till filing of the details.
