ECP bars PM Shahbaz from inaugurating Hydropower Project ahead of by-polls

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restricted Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif from inaugurating Karot Hydropower Project in Kahuta Tehsil in Rawalpindi ahead of by-polls as the hydropower project falls within the constituency of PP-7 Rawalpindi.

According to the spokesman of the Election Commission of Punjab, the Prime Minister has been restrained from possible violation of the Electoral Code of Conduct on June 29. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was about to inaugurate the dam in Kahuta area of PP-7 on which the District Returning Officer contacted the principal secretary to Premier.

The Prime Minister has canceled the inauguration of the dam to implement the Electoral Code of Conduct. The Principal Secretary has informed the Election Commission of the decision of the Prime Minister.

According to the spokesperson of the Election Commission, it is against the code of conduct for public officials to visit constituencies and inaugurate development projects.
