Drugs to be prepared from bhang, opium in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is gearing up to cultivate bhang and opium poppy for making drugs.
The provincial government has started working on cultivation of bhang (cannabis) after legal status given to it by the government.
According to a notification issued by the government, work had begun on feasibility report for growing the crops and establishment of pharma company in Khyber, Kurram and Orakzai. The Pharmacy Department of Peshawar University would submit a report in this regard to the government within six months.
The notification apprised that cannabis could be used for industrial purpose too apart from using in medicines. After granting legal status to cannabis’ production, smuggling of charas will also come to an end.
The government said that establishment of factory and industry would create opportunities for the people living in far-flung areas.
