Dozens stuck under rubble as factory building collapses in Karachi

KARACHI: Dozens of people are feared to be stuck under the debris after building of a factory collapsed in Karachi’s Shershah area.

Two injured were recovered from the rubble.

Law enforcement agencies and rescue teams have arrived to help the people near Siemens Chowrangi.

Sindh Building Control Authority Director Ali Mehdi said that the SBCA could not monitor structure of buildings across the megalopolis all the time. The SBCA has declared more than 400 buildings across Karachi as dangerous, however no action could be taken against them.

The SBCA director said that the building that collapsed in Shershah did not come under their jurisdiction as SITE Industrial Area authority itself passed maps and kept vigilance of the buildings in its areas.
