On Thursday, young doctors, nurses and paramedical staff called a strike to protest the privatization of hospitals in Faisalabad.
Under the Medical Teaching Institutes (MTI) Reforms Act, the government is privatizing all government hospitals, under which all the hospitals will operate autonomously, and their administration and financing will be free of any political interference.
A Grand Health Alliance was formed to pressurize the government to repeal the law, which they say will privatize government-run hospitals. The hospitals have decided to go on strike every Tuesday and Thursday until the government retracts its order.
Hundreds of patients are suffering because of the protest, as they are not able to get any treatment. All government hospitals have closed all the Operations theatres, OPDs, and laboratories.
