DHA, Clifton tea shops to close by midnight

KARACHI: The Cantonment Board Clifton has issued a set of new rules under which all the tea shops across the Defence Housing Authority and Clifton will be shut down by midnight on weekdays and by 1:00 am on weekends.
The cantonment board has decided this in an attempt to stop use of narcotics at “dhabas” throughout night.
A meeting chaired by CBC President Station Commander Brigadier Abid Ali Askari decided that all tea shops should install surveillance cameras by Oct 25 and register their employees at relevant police stations.
The shop owners have been asked to select a representative to be included in the CBC’s committee on tea shops, which will also have representatives of the police, Rangers, Anti Narcotics Force, CBC and DHA.
Tables and chairs should not be set up on roads or footpaths and beggars should be discouraged to roam around.
They have been directed to not allow new customers after 11:30 pm and shut down their shops by midnight on weekdays. While, new customers should not be allowed after 12:30am on weekends and shops should be closed by 1:00 am.
Employees of the shops have been directed not to strew garbage around.
