DG Parliamentary Affairs Rai Mumtaz arrested ahead of Punjab Assembly session
Just a few hours before Punjab assembly session on Sunday, police arrested DG Parliamentary Affairs Rai Mumtaz while raided the residence of Secretary Assembly and Secretary Coordination.
According to the Punjab Assembly spokesperson, the police entered the house of Rai Mumtaz by climbing over the walls of his house and arrested him.
Rai Mumtaz’s family said police raided the house at night and transferred Rai Mumtaz to an unknown location.
Punjab Assembly spokesman said, raids were also carried out on the houses of Assembly Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti and Secretary Coordination Inayatullah Lak.
Speaker Punjab Assembly Pervez Elahi while condemning the arrest of Rai Mumtaz and raids on the houses of Muhammad Khan Bhatti and Inayatullah said that all action was being taken on the orders of Shahbaz Sharif and this action of the government was based on fascism.
Pervez Elahi said that the arrests and raids of the assembly officers were proof of the government’s bewilderment, unconstitutional and fake government was taking steps against the constitution.
Notably, Speaker Pervez Elahi has convened a meeting of the Punjab Assembly today. Earlier, the meeting of the Punjab Assembly was convened on May 30 but after Election commission’s verdict over de-seating of 25 lawmakers of PTI, Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi changed the date.
Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz also convened a meeting of the parliamentary party of PML-N and allied parties today. The meeting will decide the strategy for the Punjab Assembly session.
