SHEIKHUPURA: At least 20 Sikh yatrees were killed and five others injured in a collision between a train and a coaster on Friday in Sheikhupura.
A coaster bus carrying Sikh yatrees rammed into a train at a railway crossing near Sacha Soda, in Sheikhupura, The incident took place at the railway crossing without a barrier.
The bodies have been shifted to hospital for medico legal formalities, while the injured have been provided medical assistance.
President Dr Arif Alvi has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the train accident in Sheikhupura. In a statement, he directed to provide best medical facilities to injured persons of the accident.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also expressed sorrow over the accident at a railway crossing near Sheikhupura which resulted in the death of at least 20 people, mainly Sikh pilgrims returning from Nankana Sahib.
In his condolence message on Friday, he prayed for the families of the deceased to bear the irreparable loss.
The prime minister also directed relevant authorities to provide proper medical care to the injured and to facilitate all the families.
He said entire railway’s operational safety Standard Operating Procedures will be reviewed immediately.
Earlier, District Police Officer Sheikhupura Ghazi Salahuddin said 15 Sikh pilgrims died as the train travelling towards Lahore from Karachi collided with the bus near Farooqabad railway station.
