 CPEC phase II foresees generating mass employment: Chairman CPEC Authority

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the CPEC General Authority (Retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa said the second phase of China’s Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) included multi-sector projects that would generate opportunities for mass employment in the region, media sources say.

“Time to gear up for Phase-2 which is envisioned to generate mass employment through more projects of mass industrialization, agriculture and socioeconomic uplift,” he said in a tweet.

The CPEC chairman said he had taken briefings from different stakeholders after taking the charge and came to know that the CPEC had acceptability across the board. He said the first phase of the CPEC had already brought relief in the energy and infrastructure sector while the second phase would help expand industrialization and other socio-economic sectors.

Asim Bajwa said nine projects have been completed so far generating 5320 MW of electricity with a US$ 7.9 billion investment that provides jobs for 5000 Pakistanis.

Meanwhile eight more projects under construction are investing another $9.55 billion to produce 4470 MW of electricity providing jobs for 15,227 Pakistanis.
