Court slaps SSGC with Rs100,000 fine for negligence

KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has been penalized with a fine of Rs100,000 by a consumer protection court on Thursday.
According to the sources, the residents of New Karachi have filed a case against the SSGC after noticing water coming out of gas pipeline.
The petition was filed by a resident named, Umar Hussain.
On the court hearing, it was apprised that the area has been getting water through the gas pipeline since 2018. In spite of several complaints, the company didn’t take any measure to solve the issue, said Umar.
The judicial magistrate, Javed Ali Korejo, imposed a fine worth Rs, 100,000 after hearing the petition. He further stated that, the fine will be doubled to Rs200,000 if any delay would be noticed in the payment.
