Court issues bailable arrest warrant of Shahbaz Gill in sedition case

An Islamabad’s district and session court on Thursday issued the bailable arrest warrant of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill in sedition case registered against him for alleged controversial remarks against the state institutions.

Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra heard the sedition case against Shahbaz Gill in the District and Sessions Court Islamabad.

Shahbaz Gill’s counsel filed a petition for exemption from appearing during the court’s hearing. At this Special prosecutor Raja Rizwan Abbasi remarked that the petitioner has shown a reckless attitude.

Gill’s lawyer Shehryar Tariq responded that his client wanted exemption from hearing as he was hospitalized due to ill health and the PTI leader will appear in the court once his health gets better.

The court while issuing warrant remarked that the petitioner can grant bail against the security bond of Rs200,000.

Earlier today, Balochistan High Court ordered to quash the sedition charge against Shahbaz Gill over controversial remarks against the state institutions.

Background:

Earlier, PTI chairman Imran Khan’s ex-chief of staff was detained by the Islamabad Police on August 9 on charges of sedition and inciting people against state institutions after he made a controversial statement on the private news channel.

On August 9, the police arrested Shahbaz Gill from the federal capital in a sedition case.

A case of sedition has been registered against Shehbaz Gill in Islamabad’s Kohsar police station on the complaint of the city magistrate.

PTI leader had sought post-arrest bail saying that he was subjected to torture.

Adiala Jail officials and PIMS medical board confirmed that Gill was subjected to torture, the petition said adding that Gill must be released from prison until the court give a final judgment in the sedition case.

On September 14, the Islamabad High Court granted bail to Shahbaz Gill against surety bonds worth Rs500,000.
