Coronavirus vaccine enters third phase of clinical trials in Pakistan
KARACHI: Work on preparation of COVID-19 vaccine has picked up speed and the good news is that the vaccine after completing two of its testing phases has entered the third one in Pakistan now.
The spokesperson of the National Institute of Health (NIH) said that approval for PHRC’s clinical study has been given in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan has given green light for third phase of clinical trial of the vaccine, he said.
In the first phase, 20-25 people undergo clinical test, in the second phase the number of patients rises to hundreds of people and in the third phase the number of patients to undergo clinical test climbs to thousands of people. After that the patients are monitored for finding out side effects of the treatment.
The vaccine being tested in Pakistan is prepared by Beijing Institute of Biotech.
The spokesperson said that it was the first time that a coronavirus vaccine had entered its third phase of clinical trial.
