UNITED NATIONS: The World Health Organization has reiterated that the new coronavirus is of natural origin after US President Donald Trump claimed he had seen evidence it originated in a Chinese lab.
Talking to reporters in Geneva, the WHO emergencies chief Michael Ryan said we are assured that this virus is natural in origin.
Meanwhile, the WHO chief Tedros Adhanom said we didn’t waste any time as the world had enough time to intervene.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan has soared to 18,114, while the death toll from the virus stands at 417, with 32 new deaths.
According to National Command and Operation Center, these include 6733 cases in Punjab, 6675 in Sindh, 2799 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1136 in Balochistan, 340 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 365 in Islamabad Capital Territory and 66 in Azad Kashmir.
4715 patients have so far recovered and 1,297 new infectioncases have been reported during the last twenty four hours. 97 others are in critical condition.
On May 1, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shibli Faraz had said the government would take along all the federating units to address the situation arising out of coronavirus.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, he had said the nation was faced with an unprecedented challenge of Covid-19 and a collective response is required to meet it.
