Concerns raised after Aurat March Faisalabad cancelled
People on social media have raised concerns after Aurat March Faisalabad was cancelled on Sunday.
According to the details shared on social media, the city administration did not give permission to the event organisers over “security and Muharram concerns”.
The people who ran an online campaign for the event, have alleged that Faisalabad assistant commissioner is responsible for not giving non-objection certificate (NOC).
Reacting to the development, the Aurat March Faisalabad posted on social media: “It’s utterly sad that the system reacted against a peaceful and democratic March that was organized by students of the city. The administration seemed horrified by the popularity and solidarity by the peoples of the city and denied providing any sort of space and protection for a peaceful demonstration, rather, resorted to harassment and threat to the organizers.”
“The event is postponed for now, we apologise for it but we would thank you all for your support and appreciation,” it added.
The event, planned by student, civil society members and women rights activists, was scheduled for August 1 (Sunday) form Dynasty Service Lane Kohinoor Chowk to D-Ground in Faisalabad.
“This Protest is for Women led by Women, Organized by women. All the allies will be there for logistical concerns and for security. No man would be allowed to enter the cordon where women are holding their protest,” the Aurat March Faisalabad’s official Twitter account said earlier.
