The compensation to Nasla Tower affectees petition was heard on Wednesday (today) by Sindh High Court (SHC).
Sindh Assembly member and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) deputy convener Kunwar Naveed Jamil filed a petition in Sindh High Court for the compensation of the Nasla Tower affectees.
The petition was heard by Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput and Justice Faisal Kamal.
Justice Kamal questioned the petitioner’s lawyer “How can the High Court listen to the petition as the case is ongoing in Supreme Court?”
The case is adjourned by the Sindh High Court till December 8. The judges have instructed the petitioner’s lawyer to present the argument that the petition can be maintained or not in the next hearing.
It is still unclear that how the affectees will be reimbursed as there is no timeframe being given by the authorities.
Earlier, to abide by the verdict of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the concerned authorities shortlisted a few firms for the demolition of Nasla Tower.
One firm quoted a sum of Rs220 million to demolish the tower along with the rights of the debris.
As per the reports, none of the firms has prior experience of a controlled implosion of the building in an urban area.
On October 25, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered to demolish the Nasla Tower after which the residents vacated the building.
