COAS General Bajwa embarks on ‘Farewell’ visits before retirement

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has started farewell visits as his retirement finally approaches after serving the country for around 6 years.
The ISPR has once again cancelled all speculations regarding the extension of COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
In an official statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Sialkot and Mangala Garrison as part of farewell visits of various formations.
The COAS on Thursday met the senior military officers and addressed the troops. He appreciated the formations for their excellent performance during various operations, training and natural calamities.
The Chief of Army Staff advised the soldiers to continue serving the nation with the same spirit and determination, whatever the circumstances come.
Earlier on arrival in Sialkot, Lt. Gen. Mohammad Amir welcomed the COAS while Lt. Gen. Ayman Bilal Safdar welcomed him at Mangala Garrison.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s tenure is coming to its end on November 29.
He was initially appointed as COAS in November 2016 for a three-year term. His tenure was extended for another three years in August 2019. However, the Supreme Court (SC) suspended the extension in November 2019.
The apex court extended General Bajwa’s term for six months and asked the Parliament to pass legislation on the re-appointment of services chiefs.
In January 2020, the PTI-led parliament passed legislation, putting the matter of the extension in the tenure of services chiefs at the discretion of the PM.
