Karachi witness a surge in chicken meat prices with boneless meat being sold for Rs800 per kg, followed by bone-in meat (Rs520-640 per kg) and live bird (Rs350-360 per kg) amid the upcoming festive season of Eidul Fitr.
According to Dawn’s report, the new chicken meat prices show a jump of Rs100-150 per kg in the last one week.
The report also states: “Poultry sector people say that massive price hike was because of short supply of birds from the farms which are hit by ‘Rani Khet’ disease, causing a huge loss of birds at the farms.”
Data suggests massive irregularities in implementing rates set by Karachi commissioner. Neither the retailers nor any wholesalers have put the rates on display.
Consumers complain that retailers are charging extra amount while taking advantages of rising demand as the price regulation remains ineffective.
