Centcom chief lands in Pakistan to meet new COAS Gen Asim Munir

Gen Michael Erik Kurilla, the commander of the US Central Command (Centcom) on Thursday landed in Pakistan to meet news chief of the army staff (COAS) Gen Syed Asim Munir.
A statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Pakistan Army said, that the Centcom Commander General Michael Erik Kurilla met Army Chief General Syed Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi.
The Centcom chief laid floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument during his visit to the GHQ. The armed forces of the Pakistan Army presented him ‘guard of honour’.
This was the first time that the CENTCOM chief met the army chief in person since the latter assumed office last month.
In this meeting, issues of mutual interest, regional stability, security situation, defence and security cooperation, especially bilateral military relations were discussed.
The Centcom Commander lauded Pakistan’s achievements in the war against terrorism, acknowledged the flood victims’ relief and rehabilitation works and cooperative efforts for regional peace.
According to the ISPR, the American delegation will also visit the Torkham border today.
During the visit, the CENTCOM Commander will be briefed on the counter-terrorism and border management measures on the Pak-Afghan border.
