ISLAMABAD: Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar on Monday said the Council of Common Interests (CCI) unanimously approved National Electricity Policy 2021.
He said this while addressing a news conference along with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr Waqar Masood Khan in Islamabad.
Hammad Azhar said new electricity policy would be effective for ten years and new projects would get approval in a transparent manner under the policy.
The minister said in the light of the new electricity policy, policies for sub sectors will be devised. He said with the help of new policy people would get low price and environment friendly electricity.
He said one hundred billion rupees had been allocated to improve transmission system in the country.
Azhar said that the policy would also resolve the issues related to tariff setting, power generation and transmission.
“This policy is focused on power expansion on a competitive, least cost and transparent basis. Had we put in place a policy like this 15 years ago, we would not have a troubled power sector today,” he said.
