The Mrs Sri Lanka received head injury when the Mrs World tried to “snatch” her crown and perch it on head of the runner-up of the contest.
31-year-old Pushpika De Silva was crowned during the ceremony at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre, Colombo. But Caroline Jurie, 28, took the stage and announced that De Silva did not deserve the 2020/2021 title as she was a divorcee and the prize was for married women.
The event was live broadcast on the national TV and social media platforms. Jurie had herself won the same title in 2019 and is a current Mrs World.
Later during a small ceremony, the event organisers confirmed that De Silva was not a divorcee and returned the crown to her.
During the tussle to remove the crown, Jurie had unintentionally injured the Mrs Sri Lanka as the crown got entangled with her hair.
Talking to media, Mrs Sri Lanka said that she was separated but not divorced, which are two completely different things. She also threatened to take a legal action against the Mrs World for injuring and insulting her in public.
