Federal Information Minister Shibli Faraz announced on Thursday that Former Supreme Court judge Azmat Saeed Sheikh would head the inquiry committee formed to probe the case of Broadsheet LLC. However, the opposition party Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has rejected the government’s decision.
PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal expressed concerns and pointed out that the former Supreme Court judge was also a part of the bench in the Panama Papers case which disqualified Nawaz Sharif.
The retired judge is currently a member of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital’s Board of Governors.
“This (the appointment) proves that Imran Khan wants to protect NAB & himself,” Ahsan Iqbal remarked.
Justice (retd.) Sheikh was also a part of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as the deputy prosecutor general when Broadsheet LLC was hired by General Pervez Musharraf’s government in 2000 to recover assets stolen by the past Pakistani governments.
However, the minister had already announced that the committee would take 45 days to complete investigation.
