Bilal Saeed, Saba Qamar acquitted in Masjid Wazir Khan desecration case

Actress Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed have been acquitted on charges of alleged desecration of Wazir Khan Mosque.

Additional Sessions Judge Lahore Muhammad Mushtaq on Monday granted the acquittal pleas of Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed.

Background of the incident:

In August 2020, a video of a song from the album of Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed went viral on social media in which both the artists were present at the Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore.

On social media, the two artists shared a caption with the teaser of their song ‘Qabool Hai’ in which they wrote, ‘This is the only part that was filmed in the historic Wazir Khan Mosque, this is the introductory part of the music video which the wedding scene is presented in, it was not filmed with any kind of playback music nor is it part of the music track.

As the video went viral on social media, both the artists faced severe criticism. Social media users said that both of them have hurt the feelings of Muslims as well as desecrated the holy place so action should be taken against both of them.

The celebrities later apologized for the incident, while the endowment department suspended the mosque manager for allowing the shooting of songs in the mosque.
