Average Kashmiri views India as occupational force, says Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter
Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter Iltija Mufti in an interview with India Today said that an average Kashmiri viewed India as an occupational force.
To a query, she said, “Well, this may land me in trouble but, the average Kashmiri views India as an occupational force. They (just) want freedom. It is the truth.”
Mehbooba Mufti a leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party. She served as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir from April 4, 2016, to June 19, 2018.
Iltija Mufti said nine million people were incarcerated and Indians did not feel empathy for them.
To a query regarding if lifting the clampdown could resolve the problem, she said, “While they have created the problem so you can ask them for a solution it wasn’t our suggestion to them to abrogate Article 370. This is the problem that is self-inflicted. I have said this before as well. It is an own goal, you have played into the hands of terrorists. You have possibly played into the hands of Pakistan.
“At international forum you have Pakistan speaking for Kashmiris, then what is India doing?”
To another query, she said the small elite of Gupkar road actually wanted to participate in the political process but what did India do to them. Farooq sahib whose father rejected two-nation theory, you have slapped PSA on the ailing old politician on what charges, she wondered.
He asked Indians to become ‘Insan k bachay’ (children of human being)
India has to think that why 10-15 percent vote and the remaining boycott elections in Kashmir, she maintained.
“People are being repressed and it is unimaginable repression. I feel the pain of my people. They have treated us like the herd of cattle. They are not treating us as a human being.”
