British actor Idris Elba confirmed he tested positive for the new coronavirus on Monday.
Elba, who appeared in the “The Wire” television series and the “Avengers: Infinity War” film, said in a Twitter message that he had no symptoms but has self-isolated himself from everyone. His location at the time was unknown, however.
“This morning I tested positive for Covid 19. I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus. Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing… No panic,” Elba, 47, wrote.
Elba said he had taken the test because, on Friday, he found out that he was close to someone who had contracted the disease. The person hasn’t been named.
“Stay positive. Don’t freak out,” he said in a video accompanying the Twitter post.
Elba becomes the second biggest celebrity in Hollywood to reveal he has been infected. Last week, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson revealed they both had contracted the disease while working on a Australian film.
