ISLAMABAD: Remdesivir is the drug which is claimed to fight Covid-19. It is an anti-viral injection which ceases the virus from reproducing itself, or atleast slows down its speed of reproduction. The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has said that this drug would be made available countrywide, in three weeks’ time.
14 local manufacturers have been granted license to produce this drug at home. While the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DRAP Asim Rauf has said that two pharmaceutical companies are allowed to import this medicine, after getting it registered. The medicine has been clinically tried, and after successful result, it is approved for use in USA, Japan, South Korea, and the EU. Pakistan’s railway minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed also mentioned of this drug, at a press conference, after his recovery from Covid-19.
While describing his battle against the pandemic disease, Sheikh Rashid expressed his concern over the non-availability of this medicine, for even Rs 500,000, to a minister who has hold numerous ministries in his political career. He said “I thank the chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority for arranging this injection, I pray that no one, not even my enemy, suffers from this disease.”
