Authorities on Sunday sealed the Imtiaz Super Market branch in Karachi’s Korangi district for failing to take precautionary steps against the spread of coronavirus.
The action was taken on the orders of Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani, who on Sunday inspected different stores in the region.
The store’s management did not follow instructions to take precautionary steps, said Commissioner Shallwani. He cautioned that there will be sealing of all shops and stores if they do not follow precautionary measures recommended by the government.
An FIR was also lodged against at least two employees of the Bahadurabad branch of Imtiaz Super Market after it was raided for failing to comply with the orders to keep a safe distance between customers.
During the raid, an official present reported to a media source that people were coming into the shop, and no steps were observed.
The store’s management refused to comment when approached by media, saying their legal department would look into the matter.
