Audio record shows cargo ship asked for help several times
Geo News has reported that the Hong Kong-based cargo ship, which has remained stuck at Karachi Seaview beach since last Wednesday, had asked for assistance multiple times before being stranded.
According to the audio records received by Geo News, the ship’s captain had tried to contact the relevant authorities several times. After the third attempt, the captain was told to contact Channel 10 of a port control tower which didn’t respond on time.
The captain also made an emergency contact with Manora control which excused itself from helping him as the ship finally grounded at Karachi coast.
However, the authorities claimed that the help was offered to the captain but he expressed concerns about it.
According to media reports, the cargo ship ”MV Heng Tong 77” got stuck near the beach after losing its anchor due to rough weather conditions. The ship was coming from Shanghai and was on its way to Istanbul, Turkey.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi announced on Sunday that rescue teams were heading towards the Karachi beach to rescue the stranded cargo ship as the crisis entered sixth day.
