At least 68 people died in Germany and Belgium due to heavy rains and floods. Many people are still missing as several houses to collapsed on Thursday.
Germany is experiencing worst weather disasters since World War II, desperate residents sought refuge on the roofs of their homes as rescue helicopters circled above.
The German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that she feels sorrow and sympathy for the victims of flooding.
“I fear that we will only see the full extent of the disaster in the coming days, the government is doing its utmost to help people in their distress”, Angela Markel stated.
US President Joe Biden also expressed sincere condolences for the loss of life and destruction.
Around 15,000 members of the German emergency services, police and army were on the ground in the worst-hit areas.
