Asif Zardari files petition seeking withdrawal of money laundering case against him

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday filed a petition with an accountability court of Islamabad seeking withdrawal of mega money laundering reference against him.

Judge of Islamabad’s accountability court Azam Khan heard the mega money laundering and fake accounts case against Zardari.

The suspect’s daughter Asifa Bhutto and sister Faryal Talpur were also present in the court room on this occasion. At the beginning of the hearing, Zardari’s counsel Farooq H Naek filed the plea seeking removal of the case against his client.

He asked to remove the additional reference of money laundering case and grant his client bail.

The prosecutor of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) objected to filing of new petition before proceeding on indictment in the case.

The court asked Naek if he was not ready on giving arguments on the plea. To which, he requested to postpone the hearing till Sept 17 for the petition. The court accepted his request and adjourned hearing till Sept 17.
