Arshad Sharif shot dead in ‘mistaken identity’
Earlier, Kenyan police confirmed senior journalist and anchorperson Arshad Sharif was shot dead by the police in a ‘mistaken identity’ case while travelling to Nairobi from the country’s Magadi town.
According to foreign media, Arshad Sharif was shot in the head by Kenyan police near Nairobi after his driver allegedly breached a road block.
The publication, citing police, said that the manned roadblock had received information to intercept a car similar to the Sharif’s car, following a carjacking incident in Nairobi in which a child was allegedly taken hostage.
Judicial Commission formed
The prime minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to form a judicial commission to probe into the ‘mistaken identity’ killing of senior journalist and anchorperson Arshad Sharif by Kenyan police.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said in a statement that, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to form a judicial commission headed by a judge of the High Court to investigate the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif.
Earlier former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan Imran Khan demanded a proper judicial investigation into the high-profile killing case in the light of Arshad’s own statement and evidences from the sources.
“A proper judicial investigation must be instituted to examine his own statements plus evidence that other sources have. We have descended into a state of brutality, unknown in civilised society, indulged in by the powerful against those who dare to criticise and expose wrongdoings.” he said.
