Army to be deployed for implementation of COVID SOPs: Imran Khan
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said army would be deployed to assist other law enforcement agencies for implementation of COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).
After the National Coordination Committee NCC meeting, Imran Khan said this while addressing the nation on COVID-19 situation.
“Our situation will also become like India’s in two weeks, if we did not adopt precautions. If our situation also deteriorated to the level of India then we will have to close cities,” he said,
PM Imran said people even today were demanding from the government to place lockdown, but the government was avoiding lockdown because of labourers. Poor would be the most affected by lockdown, he maintained. Lockdown will inflict damage on national economy, he said.
“I am remorsefully saying that citizens are not properly following COVID SOPs. First of all you have to wear masks which will stop half of the spread of the disease,” Imran Khan said.
The NCC decided that schools would be shut down in cities with more than 5 percent positivity rate till Eid. Offices to be closed by 2:00 pm daily. Only 50 % staff will be allowed at offices. While outdoor/ indoor dining and indoor gyms have also been banned till Eid.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said the National Command Operation Centre (NCOC) had been directed to make a plan with provinces about how to tackle the situation if cities were closed.
He requested people specially women to do shopping during the day as markets will be shut down before Iftar.
“We have reached the 90 percent of full capacity of the country of production of oxygen and about 80 percent of that oxygen is being used for medical purpose,” he said.
