APTMA announces countrywide closure of textile mills over electricity rates
All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) on Thursday decided to shut down textile mills across the country due to the government’s move to withdraw competitive power rates for textile industry.
According to All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), the crisis in the textile industry was intensifying and to coup these crisis textile industries across the country will be closed from Saturday.
“1,600 textile mills have already been closed, 05 million employees will lose their jobs and 30 million people will be affected due to the closure of textile industries,” APTMA added.
APTMA said that the shutdown of the textile industry will deal a major blow to the country’s exports.
“Increasing exports is very important for the country’s economy, the government has withdrawn competitive energy rates for the textile industry, which should be restored.” APTMA stressed.
APTMA further demanded that continuous supply of electricity and gas at competitive rates should be ensured to the textile industry as promised by the government.
