Approval of budget constitutional obligation: Firdous Ashiq Awan

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minster on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Monday said that approval of the federal budget 2019-20 was a constitutional obligation.

“The opposition is trying to create hurdles in path of the constitution through playing politics,” Firdous Ashiq Awan wrote in a tweet.

She said that approval of budget was need of the country and the masses. She said the governance and working of institutions was linked with approval of the budget from the parliament.

“Working of the parliament and opposition legislators’ salaries were also linked with its passage,” she further added.

PPP, PML-N decide to launch anti-govt movement

The special assistant wondered if the opposition parties, which ruined the national economy when in power, wanted to further add to the miseries of the people. She said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Peoples Party were responsible for the problems faced by the country.

In an interview with a private news channel, Dr Firdous said the ruling party would get the federal budget passed on the basis of its numerical majority in the National Assembly.

However, she said, the government wished to engage with the opposition to steer the country out of crisis.
