Anti-state remarks: NA calls for moving apex court against Imran Khan

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Federal Minister Ayaz Sadiq tabled a resolution in the National Assembly (NA) on former premier Imran Khan’s anti-state, anti-army, and anti-atomic program remarks during a TV interview last week, after which the National Assembly adopted a resolution with a majority vote urging the “state” to move the Supreme Court against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan.
After the commencement of the budget session of the lower house, the members of the Assembly passed four bills of the Imran Khan government, including the bill required to meet the conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq presented a resolution condemning the former Prime Minister for speaking out against the country’s disintegration, threat to nuclear assets and armed forces.
Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf, without allowing the members to debate, immediately put it before the House for a vote.
The opposition Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) opposes the resolution, saying it should not be directed against any particular person and should include all those who in the past have targeted the armed forces, the judiciary and the country.
The resolution said, the House demanded that the state approach the Supreme Court for legal action against the former prime minister as his statement was having a direct impact on Pakistan’s security and integrity as well as its nuclear program.
The resolution further said that the House condemns Imran Khan’s attempts to defame Pakistan’s armed forces for political purposes.
The resolution stated that the House was well aware of the fact that the Armed Forces were not only taking charge of their responsibilities in accordance with the constitution and laws but were also the guarantors of Pakistan’s geographical borders.
The House acknowledges the sacrifices made by the brave armed forces in defending the country and tackling the problem of terrorism, resolution said.
In an interview with Bol TV last week, the PTI chairman had warned that if Pakistan loses its nuclear capability, it will split into “three pieces”.
