LAHORE: Punjab’s Anti-Corruption department has tightened its grip on the sugar mill mafia and 44 sugar mill owners from across Punjab have been summoned along with records.
Director General Anti-Corruption Punjab Gohar Nafees in a statement said that, “It is not possible to have oppression and justice, exploitation of farmers is not acceptable at all, a large number of complaints are being received against mill owners from all over the province.”
Anti-Corruption has received 2507 complaints against sugar mill owners in the last two weeks, 1363 complaints regarding prices below the rate fixed by the government.
While 503 complaints were received from mill owners regarding illegal cutting of sugarcane, most of the complaints regarding sugar mills were received from South Punjab.
The DG Anti-Corruption elaborated that the Anti-Corruption Department was organizing open forums for the convenience of sugarcane growers across the province.
