Anthony Fauci, the top expert on infectious diseases in the U.S. government, warned that COVID-19 cases might go up to 100,000 a day in the country if the current pattern does not change.
Speaking before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Fauci said the country is not fully in charge of the coronavirus pandemic and would be very troubling.
In reaction to dissatisfaction with lockdowns, some states that moved to reopen businesses and activities quickly found themselves forced to turn back on those moves.
Fauci said outbreaks in different parts of the world are putting the whole country at risk and warning that much worse conditions are ahead without any new attempts to tamp down the spread.
