Amazon is the world’s largest rainforest and a home to about three million animal species and one million people. It provides the world with the largest carbon store that is why it is known as “the lungs of earth.”
According to Brazil’s space research center INPE, the Amazon rainforest have hit a record number this year, with 72,843 fires detected so far.
INPE said satellite images spotted 9,507 new forest fires in the country, Since Thursday, mostly in the Amazon basin.
