Allegations on Saqib Nisar, IHC issues show-cause notices

Former Chief Justice Gilgit Baltistan Rana M. Shamim, newspaper editor in chief, editor, and journalist are summoned upon by the High Court on Tuesday (today).

The Attorney-general, as well as an attorney advocate, are also called up by the high court for the case hearing regarding the allegations of Rana M. Shamim on former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar.

As per the court, any trial outside of the court is considered virtually interferring with the court’s proceedings.

After the allegations of former Chief Justice Gilgit Baltistan surfaced, Islamabad High Court took notice and started the case proceedings.

He stated that the then Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar directed a High Court judge not to allow the release of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz before the general elections of 2018.

Meanwhile, former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar has denied all the allegations and said that this is all a lie and there is no truth in the statements given by Rana M Shamim. Saqib Nisar termed the allegations as “white lies”.

Update

All the summoned in the case have reached the High Court except Rana M. Shamim but his son has come to the court to represent the former CJ of Gilgit Baltistan. The case proceedings will begin shortly.

The Contempt of Court case proceeding has formally started in the Islamabad High Court.

The Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court has asked the journalist Ansar Abbasi to read the headline of his news story.

Ansar Abbasi has pleaded with the High Court to allow him to talk for two minutes.

The Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Athar Minallah has remarked that “We need to reinstate people’s belief on the court […] judges are also accountable, they too can be criticized.”

Mir Shakil ur Rahman was called upon on the rostrum by the court. He was directed the same as Ansar Abbasi to read the headline of the news story. To which Mir Shakil ur Rahman replied “I do not have glasses with me.”

“I am going to notice a show-cause notice to everyone,” Chief Justice stated.

Islamabad High Court has adjourned the Contempt of Court case hearing for 10 days.
