Aisam-ul-Haq announces to boycott Davis Cup tie against India
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s ace tennis player Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has announced to boycott the upcoming Davis Cup tie against India in protest against the International Tennis Federation’s decision to deprive Pakistan from hosting the Davis Cup tie.
The ITF had moved the Davis Cup tie against India from Pakistan to a neutral venue citing security issues after Indian players refused to tour Pakistan.
Aisam-ul-Haq said there was absolutely no threat foreseen for the Indian tennis team in Pakistan as hundreds of Indians were regularly visiting Pakistan to perform their religious activities in various places like Kartarpur, Nankana Sahib and Taxila.
“I have decided not to participate in the upcoming Pakistan-India tie in the Davis Cup, if it takes place on a neutral venue. I have decided to take a stand against the unfair, unjust and bias decision by ITF influenced by Indian Tennis Federation,” he said in a video statement.
The tennis player said it was an insult to his country and security forces.
