Ahsan Iqbal indicted in Narowal Sports City case

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court of Islamabad on Tuesday indicted senior Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal in Narowal Sports City case.
Former director general Pakistan Sports Board Akhtar Nawaz Ganjira is also among the other four other accused who have been indicted in the same case by the accountability court.
The hearing was conducted by accountability court No 3’s judge Asghar Ali. The court was apprised that the accused yielded personal benefits as a minister by misusing his authority and he expanded scope of the sports city because of his ill-intention. While, Ahsan Iqbal has denied all the allegations against him.
Earlier, Ahsan Iqbal had objected to the case saying that the court should have seen whether the issue was worthy of its hearing or not as a judge did not comment after hearing arguments of a prosecution only. However, his arguments were rejected by the court. The judge had told him that he should give statement in his defence, if he had any.
Talking to media outside the court, the PML-N leader said that not even one single line in the reference against him was about financial embezzlement. He said it was the one-off project in the country, however, if there were 10 similar projects then he could have been accused of overspending. He said time of judges was also being wasted by making baseless cases.
