LAHORE: An accountability court of Lahore has extended physical remand of Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Khawaja Asif into the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)’s custody by 10 days in assets beyond means case.
The PML-N leader was nabbed on Dec 29 last year and has been presented twice before the court since then.
The NAB representative pleaded to the court that the suspect should be probed about his contacts and links with Tariq Mir & Co. To which, Asif’s counsel said the matter was already being investigated since March 2019.
The lawyer said that all the assets mentioned by the accountability watchdog were declared in his client’s tax returns.
On Dec 30, an accountability court in Islamabad had granted transit remand of Asif, who was arrested by NAB in the federal capital. He was later shifted to Lahore for a trial.
The opposition member and former defense minister had been arrested on multiple charges including owning the assets more than his legit income as declared by the NAB.
