Accountability court bails Asif Zardari in two cases on medical grounds
ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad has bailed former president Asif Ali Zardari on medical grounds in two corruption references on Thursday.
After the bonds were submitted, the court issued separate robkars [mandamuses] in the fake bank accounts and Park Lane Estate Company cases to the Adiala Jail.
Zardari is likely to be shifted from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad, to Karachi, where a special ward has been prepared for him in National Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases (NICVD), the sources said.
On Dec 11, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had granted former president Asif Zardari bail on medical grounds in money laundering through fake bank accounts case.
The IHC had directed the ex-president to furnish bond worth 10 million rupees.
NAB Prosecutor Jahanzaib Bharwana had read the medical report to the court. The report has recommended angiography of the suspect. “Angioplasty could also be required for inserting the stent,” the report had said.
Addressing media in Islamabad, while flanked by sister Aseefa Zardari, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Zardari had thanked the judges for the medical bail of his father.
“The medical report is deeply concerning for us as the illnesses identified in this are serious, therefore we want him to get treated immediately,” he had said. He had also criticized the government and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for creating hurdles in the medical treatment.
Zardari’s health condition is reportedly unstable as he is having difficulty in speaking due to heart problems, reported media sources on Dec 11.
According to hospital sources, Zardari’s fast heart rate was also causing issues for him to walk.
