An accountability court in Islamabad granted transit remand of PML-N leader Khawaja Asif, who was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the capital city. Khawaja Asif will be shifted to Lahore for a trial.
The opposition member and former defense minister has been arrested on multiple charges including owning the assets more than his legit income as declared by the NAB.
Asif was produced before the court on Wednesday. The accountability Judge Muhammad Bashir heard the case and passed the judgment that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had requested for a two-day remand. However, a day’s transit remand was granted considering the travel distance between Islamabad and Lahore.
Khawaja Asif has already claimed that he had been asked to leave Nawaz Sharif as such cases are meant to pressurize him and more efforts are being made to break PML-N.
PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz also reacted strongly to Asif’s arrest and warned that such moves would only facilitate the government’s departure. She further said that such tactics would not work because she had already received resignations of PML-N MPAs and MNAs.
