LAHORE: A new case of polio in a 6-month-old girl has come to light in Muzaffargarh district of Punjab.
According to details, police confirmed the virus in a 6-month-old girl in Jatoi Tehsil of Muzaffargarh. Both of her legs and neck muscles were affected due to polio. She belongs to a poor rural family.
Punjab Polio Program in-charge Sundus Irshad said that the poliovirus found in the child is being identified, the arrival of a new case is unfortunate, the government is working to eradicate the disease until the disease is eliminated.
He further said that the aim of monthly polio campaigns is to eradicate polio. Parents are requested to cooperate with polio teams, and get their children vaccinated in each campaign.
With the arrival of new cases, the number of polio cases in Pakistan has increased to 80 while in Punjab the number of cases has risen to 13.
